Menaggio stretches over a small promontory with a majestic view of the lake. It is certainly one of the richest towns in terms of accommodations and opportunities: tourism has always played an essential role here, thanks in part to its proximity to the luxurious Tremezzina.

The Village of the Ancient Castle of Menaggio

It is a pleasant and easy walk from St. Stephen's Church up to the walls of the ancient Castle: a quiet hour of total immersion among ancient dwellings and history. You will pass the house of a beloved missionary executed by the Spanish Holy Inquisition, as well as a charming little church, to finally arrive at the walls of the ancient Castle.

The Tower Galbiati, the most spectacular view of Menaggio

a 19^th-century tower that no one knows about, built by the generous Galbiati family with the simple purpose of giving residents and tourists the most spectacular view of Menaggio.

It can be reached very easily. Arrive by car here (46.02835213605049, 9.223986571010535), where there is a convenient parking. It is the starting point of two trails: one goes towards Barna and a panoramic area, the other (next to the bulletin board) is the road to the Galbiati Tower.

Villa Mylius

Located in the hamlet of Loveno, the villa was purchased in 1829 by the German banker Enrico Mylius, who was able to enhance it with both his collections of works of art and his distinguished guests, such as Carlo Cattaneo, Alessando Manzoni, the artists Hayez, Thorvaldsen and many others important people of the time. In 1983 the last descendant of the Mylius family, Ignazio Vigoni, left without heirs, decided to leave his beautiful property to the Federal Republic of Germany with the express purpose of founding there a center of high culture. Today the villa is home to a German-Italian Political and Cultural Center for the European Dialogue and offers a remarkable artistic wealth, marvelous salons, and an enchanting park with centuries-old orchids, extraordinarily beautiful viewpoints, and exotic essences.
The center can be visited every Thursday afternoon by appointment. Tours are guided and in Italian, German or English. You can learn about, among other things, an interesting story of love, great entrepreneurial success and immense generosity!
