Route of the Larian motorboat

From Bonzanigo, going down the Greenway, you find yourself here (45.97627746506232, 9.199403566361225) on the highway Statale Regina.
Head back toward Cadenabbia, keeping the lake on the right, you will encounter the historic shipyard Cadenazzi. This was very famous in the 1970s, when Aldo Cadenazzi used to build elegant runabouts loved above all by Germans and Belgians. The story, however, is much older: Aldo’s grandfather, in fact, had already started the shipyard in the early 1900s, specializing himself in the construction of very elegant English rowboats.

A little further on, in the hamlet of Portezza, look out for a white garage marked Vicolo San Vincenzo. Go down and enter the history of Italian motorboating: here you will find Guido Abbate's historic boatyard and the small square dedicated to him. Guido Abbate was a speed pioneer, his son Tullio inherited his passion and his talent winning races all over the world, and today his grandson Tullio Jr. (also known as Tullietto) successfully carries on the family's sporting tradition.

Back on the highway, go down Via 4 Novembre and immediately left onto Via Teodolinda. You will come to a small boat construction site where Tullietto Abbate continues to build racing cars. If you are lucky, you will see him at work! A few meters later we find ourselves at the huge construction site that was his father Tullio's.
Local people still remember when, in the golden ages, helicopters of such personalities as Schumacher, Piquet, Gilles Villeneuve, Maradona, Senna, Vialli, Mancini, Silvester Stallone, Carolina of Monaco and Stefano Casiraghi used to land here. Everyone wanted to buy the powerful motorboats built by the Abbate family.

Back on the highway Statale Regina, continue the walk until you reach the bridge over the Perlana River. On your right you will notice a strange villa inspired by naval architecture. It was formerly the headquarters of the Italian Motonautical Association of Lake Como (AMILA) and later was inhabited by Sandro De Col, a great protagonist of Larian motorboating and creator of the famous race Centomiglia del Lario.
