Itinerary 3 - The park, the cannon and the Mandello Lido

Once off the boat, walk down Via del Porto to your left and reach Piazza Garibaldi. As you walk along the lake, you will notice a large cannon pointing toward the water, one of Mandello's most photographed attractions.
You are free to imagine that this very powerful weapon was in defense of the town and remains to this day in its original position in memory of the many battles, but this is not the case.

The cannon was found by the Luigi Alippi, a citizen of Mandello, during some excavations near the port of Genoa. The piece was simply purchased and donated to the Pro Mandello, which placed it here. If you look at the cannon carefully you will notice the monograms of George III, King of Great Britain in the late 1700s.

You now enter Mandello's public gardens, a large green area that directly overlooks the lake. Please note that here you cannot circulate in costume, camp or light fires.

Just past the cannon you can see the majestic dock that was once Villa Falck and, a little further on, you find a skate-park open to all.
A bridge over the Meira River brings you to the Lido of Mandello: here sunbeds for rent, toilets, showers, changing rooms, bar and restaurant are available.

Leaving the Lido and crossing the bridge again, turn left and exit the park onto Via Maestri Comacini to arrive at the Sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin of the River, which you can visit. Leaving the shrine, follow the street Via Beata Vergine del Fiume to the right to reach the first street on the right, Via Manzoni, which takes you back to the starting point.
