Visit Isola Viscontea in Lecco Pescarenico

Visit Isola Viscontea, a small jewel in Lecco Pescarenico.

The Isola Viscontea (Viscontea Island) is a small jewel of Lecco and lies after Azzone Visconti Bridge. The first maps depicting it date back to 1723. There is only one building on the island and it was inhabited until 1956. The owners abandoned it when they were denied permission to build a bridge connecting the island to the mainland. It was occasionally used in later years for private events, despite the ongoing disputes between the administration and owners.
In 2013 the FAI (the Italian Environment Found) recognized the island as a heritage site of historical and cultural interest and included it among its “Places of the Heart”.
