Visit Dorio, Lake Como
The discovery of a bronze axe during the excavation of the railway tunnel testifies that the area was inhabited as early as prehistoric times by people of Celtic origin. Today the find can be seen at the Archaeological Museum Paolo Giovio in Como.
The town of Dorio, together with the adjacent towns of Corenno, Dervio and Piona, developed in Roman times, thanks to the mass arrival of Greek settlers wanted by Julius Caesar.
In 1840, with the flourishing of the silk industry, the inhabitants built a large spinning mill, which is still visible today.
Nowadays Dorio is a small town that does not offer large villas, attractions or monuments, but it is still worth a quick visit and a walk through the narrow streets that wind among the cute houses. A few steps above the village, a terraced mountain has been cultivated for centuries with olive trees, vines and laurel.
