Visit Abbadia Lariana, Lake Como
Abbadia Lariana is the first town in the branch of Lecco, on the east side of the lake.
The name Abbadia is due to the presence of a Benedictine abbey in the 9th century, but no significant traces remain today.
The first human settlements date back to the Iron Age. But like the whole of Lario, this place was later inhabited by the Gauls and the Romans. Sure enough, you can find here also a small altar dedicated to Hercules.
In 1495 Abbadia became a parish and it was dedicated to San Lorenzo. It was sacked by the Landsknechts around 1620.
Between 1817 and 1832 the Austro-Hungarians started the construction of the Stelvio and Spluga road, which now runs along the current S.P. 72.
