From the 16th century onwards, Lake Como saw a growing silk-related trade: silkworm breeding, cocoon spinning, twisting and weaving.
Here in Abbadia Lariana there is a factory for twisting silk thread, preserved as it was in the mid-19th century and turned into a museum.
Restored and enriched with contemporary materials from other spinning mills that have now disappeared, it became the civic Museum Setificio Monti in 1998.
The museum represents a truly unique find of industrial archaeology.
