The Art Gallery includes a section of early medieval, Romanesque and Gothic sculpture, with material from various religious buildings in the city; in addition, the painting sections cover an uninterrupted chronological span from the 14th century to the 20th century, with interludes on sculpture, stained glass and even miniature painting.
The section devoted to the 20th century houses sculptures and paintings by the abstractionists of the Como Group as well as drawings by the futurist architect Antonio Sant' Elia.
