Visit Corenno Plinio, Lake Como

Corenno Plinio is located on the eastern shore of the lake, below the mount Legnoncino, in a privileged position overlooking the center of the lake. Since 1928 the village has been associated with the municipality of Dervio.

Corenno is a delightful village, and we suggest it as a must-see destination on Lake Como. it is very small so you will visit it quickly: it will be enough to get lost among the small streets that goes down steeply to the small ancient harbor and enjoy its ancient and evocative atmosphere.

In the medieval documents that have come down to us, the village is referred to as Corenno or Coreno. The name Pliny was associated after the unification of Italy in 1863: it seems that the great Pliny the Younger built one of his mansions here. Hence the reason for the choice of the name.

Interesting is also a tragic legend told by Pliny himself: a Roman married couple threw themselves bound together into the waters of the lake because of a pitiful illness of the husband.

Every year, in August, the Medieval event is organised in Corenno Plinio, where the feudal atmosphere of the 12th century is re-enacted. During the event it is possible to see:

  • Medieval village with ancient crafts
  • Medieval music, shows and games for children
  • Presentation of knights, weapons and clothing
  • Guided tours
  • Excursions on the lake
  • Lunch and dinner in the medieval square
  • Landing of Emperor Frederick Barbarossa and medieval procession with Count Andreani

There is a free small beach next to the old harbour. 
To reach it, you have to park your car in the village and walk down the steps.
