The panoramic cable car of Brunate
The panoramic cable car of Brunate was open to the public in November, 11th 1894. Until the year 1922, the wagons were steam moved and could host 22 people; the climbing from Como to Brunate was covered in about 20 minutes.
In 1932, a new winch was set at the altitude of 714 m. above lake level, thus increasing the gradient but halving the time of ascension. Along the way there are two stops on request: Como Alta and Carescione (a hamlet of Brunate). Half way up, there is a platform with a cannon which was set there in 1912; it is called “The Midday Cannon” because every day at noon a blank shot tells the hour.
The Funicular runs starting from 6,00 a.m. till 22,30 (10,30 p.m.). On Saturday fro, 6,00 a.m. till 24,00 (Midnight) about every 15 minutes. During Summer, it runs daily till Midnight.
